He,
I'm used to store user backups on a ftp server. can the gz archives be encrypted by da?

That would be an excellent feature considering I backup to a lot of external shared hosting plans.

This was more a feature request actually but we could use openssl for example, since DirectAdmin already uses this and we know it's already present on most servers anyway. Maybe you know an easier/better solution?

Would be a very welcome feature though having the backups encrypted that are stored on remote servers.

That already was my feature request, well actually it was the feature request from the topic starter. I also mailed with John about this and pointed him to this url:

http://www.madboa.com/geek/openssl/#encrypt-simple

Look pretty simple and since almost all DirectAdmin servers already have openssl installed (I would imagine) it's a cross-platform solution as well.

There are probably more important things he is working on. You can do this yourself im sure.

Hope he's still considering this, since these backups contain quite a lot of sensitive data this would make the backups a lot more secure.

Thanks for that suggestion, though to keep it even more simple for me to administer lots of servers I would still prefer a built in option.
