I would like to know this also. This should be some kind of feature, accounts are growing in size daily as hosting evolves and i think backups as they are are not appropriate anymore for large hosting providers..

Oh that is a bunch of crap. Users should always be allowed to get a backup of their data. Maybe hosting providers are getting cheaper?

If you cant afford the hardware dont get into the hosting business.

Sorry, but we're not backing up a 750.000 files (inodes) which are basically leftover cache files for a few bucks. Yeah, they can back up their data by downloading a gazillion files but this is impossible with DA backups as they are.

We have a configuration of 8x450 GB SAS 15k with 1 GB FBWC on the server, 2x QC & 24 GB RAM and the server backups that user alone for more than an hour _at night_ when the load is low. And yes, we have switched to ionice now.

Please don't take this post as a disagreement with anything that's been said already on the thread...

I'm just pointing out that as more and more users keep all their email in IMAP on their account, you may want to be sure that your users know if you're not backing up email or cache files; the biggest users of indoes.

Perhaps it's time to develop a more sophisticated systm, which will not backup cache files. Any ideas, anyone?

Jeff
