Backup MySQL

I may be being a bit of a newbie but if I just backup the /var/lib/mysql directory, would that make a clean backup of all databases on a server?

I am guessing its not that easy but hey worth a go

Yes you can back them up that way. I suggest in directadmin using the backup system tool under the admin tools section.

If you're going to rely on a file-by-file backup of MySQL you must shut down MySQL first to make sure you get usable files. Shut it down through the Web-based interface, or DA will start it back up again before your backup is done.
