So, Direct Admin backup system has issues, but overall works infact if it had rsynch setup id feel comfortable using just it. I have been on jetbackup for 5+ years back in day of my cpanel etc before all coverted over to DA. I got thinking though as I have never tried a recovery though jetbackup and let me tell you the results are not only horrid, but even tickets with jetbackup they admit their documentation is lacking for SSH recovery etc and would not even tell me how. It just seems like a mess. Even after that the recoveries are failing and not bothered to put a ticket in on that. The fact of all other issues prior. So good news is I did have a server fail where I needed to go to them and deal with all this. I am glad I tested it out and actually did the DA backup recovery as well.

So I was wondering if others have had issues with jetbackup (meaning you actually tried a disaster recovery on DA.) I am also wondering about software you have tried and have exp with. I am thinking of trying a trial of bu-backup under same circumstances. This came up as I gotta server I gotta migrate to newer ssds and going redo the partition and update OS at same time. So was doing some trial runs off of my other server to find some rather crazy anomalies. I plan to call jetbackup tommarow and see what they have to say over the phone their sales support always been ironically better tech support as well. Not sure if this is a new problem or been around for a while as always expected the restore if I needed it just to work.

Anyways, appreciate anyone elses feedback on any of this.

Edit will add tier 2 support from jetbackup did get intouch with me noted the bug and had me goto edge which corrected it. Was alot better then the tier 1 over the weekend. Although raises questions why the stable is more buggy on restore, but go figure. I am testing out what they told me to do tonight.

Hello @silvatech,

I apologize for any inconvenience experienced when using JetBackup 5 on DirectAdmin. I would like to thank you for reaching out to our support team and for taking the time to report your findings to our Level 2 team. Your feedback and the feedback of others is greatly appreciated as it allows us to continually provide updates that make JetBackup 5 more secure and reliable.

As you have mentioned in your post, some of the issues you experienced were resolved in our recent EDGE releases of JetBackup 5. Our EDGE releases will have our must up-to-date versions that include many bug fixes but also may introduce new features which is why we use our standard release cycle for new versions by placing them in the EDGE tier first and then moved over to the BETA/STABLE tier after about 1 - 2 months in between each tier. This allows our developers time to collect feedback on the new version and provide patches as needed before being released to the STABLE Tier.

With that being said, I am glad our Level 2 team was able to help further assist in this situation and please note our developers are hard at work resolving any additional known issues with JetBackup 5 and hope to provide updates as soon as possible. Our JetBackup 5 Changelog and Release Notes will be to provide updates on when these known issues are resolved. Please always feel free to reach out to our team for any further assistance.

Thank you,
Richard, JetApps
