Hi everyone,

One of my customers is getting too much space with his emails, so i thought to create a backup of them and "delete" them in order to clear the space.

Is there any tuto to make it with DA?? or should i do it with shell ??

Thanks in advance

JP

Tks Jeff,

May i request what kind of script that should look like :s

From a personnal point of view, i'm a bit surprised (to not say disappointed) that DA has not this kind of "option".

Thanks in advance

JP

Is your user using IMAP or POP3? If they are using IMAP and you remove their email, chances are their email will disappear in their client as well, as IMAP depends on the server for storage.

If it's POP3, have the user set a retention time in their email client.

If they have a quota set on their account, they should be able to store as much mail as they want up to that limit. If this user is over their quota, email them, let them know they are over their limit and that some mail needs to be removed or they get bumped to the new package level. In the meantime, bill them for space overage.

Simple enough.

No, this is not what DirectAdmin is meant for. Every customer can backup their own e-mail with their favourite e-mail software (webmail excluded though). If your customer is using Outlook, just have them download all the mail using POP3 and store it in a .pst file, there are enough howto's available online.

I've never taken the time to write one, so I'm not sure just what it would end up looking like.

What we do (you may choose to do otherwise) is only allow our clients the amount of space we have to give them.

frankc420 has a good idea as well :).
