Hi:

I'm trying to get a collocated server and after much research I found that for me DirectAdmin will best suitable. After Finalizing every thing two questions bothers me:

1] First installation of Directadmin cp and related software (Apache, DNS etc) are done by DirectAdmin team free of charge (as I understood) But what happen if my server get compromise or any how I loose all setup? Do I need to install my self? In this situation is there any guideline that I should follow for installation of each of them?

2] At the moment I can not afford much bandwidth, Is directadmin has any built in feature to limit bandwidth for each connection? Or what is the least bandwidth you recommend for my shared hosting server?

I will appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Yantragna.

If you lose your entire DA and need to do a complete reinstall, there's a How-To here:

You can limit your clients, and even set DA to shut them down if they exceed the limits.

But only you will be able to see how much bandwidth and/or data transfer you'll need, from your own experience, as it develops, with your own hosts.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm still not clear with my second question. As I know that I can limit the number of concurrent clients with apache. But is there any way that we can limit the Bandwidth one client is using at a time?

I presume now that you're writing about the real definition of bandwidth; most people mean data transfer when the refer to bandwidth.

I know only that there's an apache module that allows you to limit, but I don't know anything about it :( .

Perhaps someone else can jump in and help.

Hello,

DirectAdmin does monitor bandwidth, but the limits are only checked nightly. If you require a realtime eye on things, then you might look into mod_bandwidth or mod_throttle to put more of a cap on things. Another option is to increase the frequency that the nightly tally is run. You could run it, say, 4 times a day instead of once, which would suspend sites sooner after they go over their limit.

John,

So I'm guessing he means the real definition of bandwidth, the amount of data in kb/s being transferred over the connection at any given moment in time.

If so, then that's quite different than what most of us mean when we say "bandwidth", which is the total amount of data transferred over a period of time.

The latter is what DA measures.

The former requires real-time monitoring with something such as MRTG.

Thanks for your siggestions.

I think I'm understood now, How I will deal with it. Before I was thinking that I will not be able to tweak Apache config once directadmin is installed. But I think I can go with both features either mod_bandwidth or have direct Admin check is frequently.
I was looking for some thing like, If one guys hosting movie clips, And people start downloading, I want to cap that perticular site site not to use more than assign bandwidth so other will not be affected by saturation. As checked mod_bandwidth I think it will do the job.

Thanks,
:D
