Hi,
i plan to buy next configuration for hosting server:
CPU Amd X2 4600+
MEM 4GB DDR2 Kingston
MBD gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2 nForce 630a chipset
HDD 250GB 7200 WD-KS SATA2 16MB x2 (raid mirror)

I was wondering whats the best supported os for this configuration. I know some problems with debian that it cannot see all installed ram.

I'd say CentOS would be the best OS choice for a DA server since that is what it is developed on. Also, for any OS to view the full 4gb, you're going to have to get the 64bit version as 32bit doesn't support that much.

But it say that DA is not supported on 64bit OS, or maybe that is changed now?

DirectAdmin supports 64 bit os.
I have been using directadmin x86_64 for more than 10 months

DirectAdmin supports RedHat and CentOS 64-bit. To see the versions supported, check here.

Just to know, are there plans to support also Debian 64-bit in the - near - future?

Thanks,
Kris

I am planing o install 64 bit version of centos. May I have any issues about incompatiblies like for 3rd party softwares, firewall, backup software or they have mostly 64bit version releases? I know it depends on which software but generally. Also if I choose to install 32bit version of centos, does not it support 4gb rams?
thanks

The 32bit version only supports ram to 3GB.

Firewall is working okay, e.g. APF or just IPtables. Any idea what backup script you would like to use?
Why not the backup of DA self?

Kris

Is it enough in case of OS crash? How about for example 3rd party softwares and extra settings that I made. I think DA does not backup them. Not yet tested, just will install next days.
