Blocked from DirectAdmin (2222) but no Firewall

I am a little baffled here. Ive had this problem for a while but have yet to do anything about it.

I run multiple computers on multiple IP address so I CAN access DirectAdmin on port 2222, but some IPs are blocked, and I have no idea why.

A little about the server. It is a bit old, but functional.

Dual Operteron 248
5GB RAM
320GB HDD

Running CentOS (64bit)

- I do not have any special firewalls installed. I only installed the default base OS from CENTOS and DirectAdmin. THAT IS IT!

- There is no ip_blacklist file (or I cannot find it).

- I have disabled iptables incase it was the problem.

Okay, so I can access DirectAdmin from home, which is fine. But I can neither access DirectAdmin from my office, or my other server running WHMCS for auto account creation.

I run multiple DirectAdmin servers, and I can access all other machines fine from both my WHMCS server, and my office, so there is no problem on that end.

I can ping the problem DA server as well as pull web pages on port 80. I just cant get to the login screen of DA on port 2222.

Would apreciate any help really. If theres DA admin/developer about, I dont mind providing login details to my server for you to check it out. I dont know of it is a bug, or me being stupid.

Thnx for the help

Most of us require payment if we have to login to your server.

I was looking more along the lines of help from the DirectAdmin team. You know... customer support... not asking 3rd parties to have a look. For some reason i wouldnt trust it LOL.

But help over the forums is just as good so long as people know what im talking about.

Then you should probably write to DirectAdmin support. This is a user supported forum. It is not the official support from DirectAdmin staff although they will comment here occasionally.

Asking here IS asking for third party help.

If your DirectAdmin license comes with support, you can contact DirectAdmin support here. However, if you can log in from some places and not others, it's likely that DirectAdmin is running as it should.

If you need someone else to log into your server and check something for you, user floyd is generally right; you probably won't find anyone willing to take the risk of logging into your server unless you're willing to pay for it. We and others offer paid support, but yes, we do charge.

I appologise if there has been a misunderstanding here.

I know this is a user supported forum so I am hoping for some advice as I can see so many people are offering.

However, I have seen DA staff respond to some threads to which my final comment was directed at them.

I am not interested in providing my root access for this server to any third parties, paid or otherwise.

However, I have seen DA staff respond to some threads to which my final comment was directed at them.

I mentioned that as well. However if you want support from JBMC directly then you need to contact them directly.

I am just saying this so you are not sitting there waiting for JBMC to respond to this thread. They may never read this thread.

And of course to offer support they'd need root access to the server.

I can understand why some folk won't allow root access to their server; the problem is then only someone who has had the same problem cans even guess as to what the problem might be.

Here are my suggestions:

Make sure your ISP isn't blocking port 2222.
Try a different port for DirectAdmin.

Am I being unclear or something?

I am not expecting or waiting for the DirectAdmin staff to help. I am merely stating that if they CAN help, root access can/will be provided.

Regarding my problem, I have posted it in the public forums so that anyone who may have had experience with this problem, may be kind enough to share his/her solution with everyone!

As for changing port numbers and my ISP blocking, this is definitely not the case. I think I clearly explained in my first post when I opened the thread, that I can access it on different servers and machines. So it is not an ISP issue.

I feel a little as though everyone is jumping down my throat here, criticizing!

- Again, to be clear, I posted on the public forums for PUBLIC support.
- Access to my server would be given to a DirectAdmin member of staff if one was willing to help.
- Port is not blocked by ISP, as would have been clear if people just read my first post.

Hey,

Ah... You know, the natives get restless every so often... Welcome to the DA Forums!

What exactly do you get/see when you try to access DA. Have you narrowed it down to just one or two IPs that cannot access DA?

Check this file, if it exists, for any IPs...

/usr/local/directadmin/data/admin/ip_blacklist

If the IP is in there, remove it and then adjust the Administrator Settings in DA.

I'm not sure exactly what you would see it you tried to access DA and your IP was in there... Never happened to me... Anyway, that's a start...

Nobody is jumping down your throat. But it seems we still keep going back to how JBMC should be contacted.

I am merely stating that if they CAN help, root access can/will be provided.

In order for you to know if they can help you have to contact them and ask for it. Do not think that posting here in the public forum is the same as contacting JBMC. Please use.

As you can see JBMC is not necessarily going to respond to this thread. They may not even know about it.

I only installed the default base OS from CENTOS

Which by default installs a firewall that blocks a lot of stuff.

I have disabled iptables incase it was the problem

Let's check it to make sure:
Code:
iptables -L -n

Can you reach the login screen from any other computer anywhere?

Have you verified DirectAdmin is running?

Some believe revealing their ip address here is a security risk but it is not:

If you tell us your ip then we can test it for you as well.

As for changing port numbers

If you changed the port number then we will need that as well.

Have you run nmap from the WHMCS machine to check the other to see if is listening on the DirectAdmin port?
