Ok, here's the scenario.

Customer is moving from my www15 to my www27 - both servers have multiserver setup.

Client has additional domains in their account, but can't create them (as they existed on www15) on their new account on www27 - it replied that the "domain already existed" - when it did not.

I deleted the records from the slave server, without disabling multiservers, and it continued to fail.

I disabled multiservers, and deleting the zone records from the slave server, and it went through fine.

Is there any way around this?

Thanks

Joe

I'm obviously not the person to fix it; John will have to take care of that. My reply is to let you know that DA determines whether or not a domain is hosted on the server by the presence of a zone file.

I'd personally like to see a better way, especially since you can now have zone files for domains you want to move to your server.

So I'm anxiously awaiting John's reply as to how he can resolve it.

If you didn't point him to this thread in your email to support, I hope you will, so we can all see the response.

Thanks.

Jeff

I have the same problem and you can get it too if you want :)

Steps to get infected :)

1) Set up 2 or more servers using the new Multi-server option
2) Create any domain name on any of the servers
3) Wait a while 2-3 minutes, the sones should have been created on all the servers by then but you can validate it by checking /var/named on the other servers to see if the zone file is there.
4) Delete the domain name, wait as long as you want, the domain's zone file and named.conf entry is only removed from the primary server.
5) try to create the same domain as in step 2 on any of the servers (including the one you removed it from) and you'll get a message that the domain already exists.

This an unwelcome undocumented feature that will eventually slow the reloading of named down dramatically because of all the unused and unwanted zone files and named.conf entries.

Hello,

I've tested it here on our build systems.. and the delete portion seems to work here. If you'd like me to take a look at your system, send us your info to [email protected].

Also check the /var/log/directadmin/error.log on either machine to see if there is anything useful.

If there is a bug, we'll want to fix it up quickly ;)
