Yesterday, we had a server issue which required changing to new hardware. The backups created as the reseller (admin) (NOT the admin level backups) - did not carry over the user created FTP accounts. There were zero errors in the backup log, and zero errors in the restore log. The main account user was restored, but not subsequent logins within that account.

Specifically what did you click on to get the backups?

The backups from a reseller should be backing up everything within the /home/USERNAME directories for all the users under that reseller.

Are you saying it doesn't? Or are your ftp accounts somewhere else? Or am I confused as to what you were trying to do?

It looks like some FTP account information is stored in /etc/proftpd.passwd for shared IPs and some are stored in /usr/local/directadmin/data/users/USERNAME/ftp.passwd for dedicated IPs.

Correct, but it should all end up in the backup.

Check the contents of the tar.gz ... check to see if you have the following file inside the backup:

backup/domain.com/ftp.passwd

if you do, check to see what the contents of the file is.

Also, what type of IP was the account on before and after the backup/restore? Shared or owned? (did it flip types during restore?)

John

This was a reseller backup (from the reseller panel) on a shared IP address.

CentOS5.x

-rw------- 1 xxx xxx 32 Jun 22 04:02 ftp.conf
-rw------- 1 xxx xxx 84 Jun 22 04:02 ftp.passwd

The affected site only has one (1) user in the ftp.passwd file ... tho 4 ftp users existed on the active site. Both old and new site have unlimited FTP accounts.

Ok, so the 4 users existed in /etc/proftpd.passwd ahead of time, but didn't end up in the backup?... I'm not too sure why that would be. Was this account at any point in time setup on an owned IP and moved around?.. Also, how many domains are on this User account, and is this the default domain? (check the contents of domain.com.ftp)
