Can I safely install Ruby onto my DA Server?

Running Debian 5 with DA. Can I safely install Ruby onto my server? Will it mess anything up with DA?

My intent is to setup Ruby s3sync so I can backup my server to Amazon S3, per these instructions, but I want to make sure that I wont mess anything up with DA.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated?

I searched the DA forum quite a bit before posting this thread, and just like in that URL, the majority of relevant threads are severely outdated, with nothing recent. I see more problems than resolve, which begged the question, is today's current DA build going to be ok if I install Ruby?

The two do not have anything to do with each other. Directadmin does not use ruby and ruby does not use Directadmin.

I'd suggest using duplicity for S3 backups


and if you want to install Ruby, use RVM. Distro packages are useless because outdated.
