I'm not sure what you mean. This works for the main site for every username.

sorry im wording it badly. I have 6 domains attributed to my username on my ded server.

when I do http://123.123.123.123/~username it shows me the website for the domain name that I have given the server. but then I have 5 other domains under my own username, and i'd like to have a look at one of them before doing any DNS.

Is this still the case - that before any DNS changes, you can only see a user's default domain.

Yes but the best way is to change the hosts file on your own computer.
