Cannot edit file

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and have just created a website in Joomla 3. I can edit the below file. However, I cannot save the changes. I get the following message:

"Unable to save your changes - Details - Unable to open /domains/**********/public_html/language/nl-NL/nl-NL.com_flexicontact.ini for writing"

I think the problem is with permissions. The folder "language" is set to 777, the folder "nl-NL" is 755, the file above is set to 644.

What do I need to change so that I can edit my file and save the changes.

Sometimes this happens if a file is uploaded by mistake by "root".
Check if the file owner is "user:user", where "user" is the account's username

Hello,

Use either suPHP (PHP-FPM) or mod_ruid2 so your PHP scripts would run not from name of apache user.

You could temporary change the filerights also to 777 and change back to 644 after you are ready editting.

However, if you rented or own your VPS or server, I would suggest to take the advise of zEitEr, also for better security.

I did not understand the other reply about PHP.

As I am the administrator, I thought it would be easier enough to change text in this file!

All,

I have amended the file now by reseting the owner. Some the UIDs and GID's are apache instead of my website. What is apache? This is my first website created with Joomla. Normally, I do not fiddle with the files in site admin as this is a little out of my depth.

apache is a user name from name of which your web-server Apache (http://httpd.apache.org/) is running.
You need to change your Apache+PHP settings in order to run PHP as site owner instead of Apache

How can I remove this thread or at least my website address?

Thanks for also your answers. I now need to remove my website from this address. The reason for this is that this thread comes up in Google when you search for my website.

Or if this is not possible, can I remove this thread?

this type of issue was with me also and with this tread I have found the solution and now happy as you Dave
