Hi,
I have domain.com and hostname as server.domain.com - anyone have idea why I (and any DNS checker) can't connect/resolve to this hostname if there's no record A "*" ? Even if there's record A "server" I can't connect... it's only working when there's "*" (wildcard?) - why?
CentOS 7 and newest DA - but that problem is since a year...

There needs to be an A record to be able to find the hostname, or any other name for that matter.

If it's only working with a wildcard, then either something is wrong in DNS or you are using external nameservers and things are not copied correctly to the external nameserver.

Do remember that it takes time to synchronise DNS records over the world. If you change things it can take up to 24 hours before you will see things happening in DNS checkers.
However, seems something else is fishy, but this is not a Directadmin issue but nameserver/DNS issue if I'm not mistaken.

5 what? Normally 3600 is used. Maybe it's faster then 24 hours. It all depends on if you change nameserver ip's or just A records.
I was just giving general information.

As also stated, you problably have another DNS/Nameserver issue.

I can't figure it out what issue because that problem is only with hostname... all subdomains and records without subdomains etc are working without "*" :D

Oke lets have a look further then. Do you have a seperate entry in DNS for your hostname? Or do you have it with domain.com?
If you have it with domain.com then first create a new seperate DNS entry for the hostname (although this should not be really necessary but is good for other stuff anyway).

If you have (or did) then check /etc/virtual if a directory is in there with your hostname, like this:
drwxr-xr-x 2 mail mail 4.0K 2021-02-12 22:45 server.yourdomain.com

Also check if server.domain.com is present in the /etc/virtual/domains file, it may NOT be in domainowners file.
