Can't connect to remote FTP for backup

I set up an FTP server on Amazon EC2 that I can connect to successfully with FileZilla to upload/download files.

When I try to connect to that server using the Schedule Backup utility in DirectAdmin, I get the following error:

/usr/bin/curl returned error code 7
curl: (7) Failed to connect to X.X.XXX.XX port 21: Connection refused
FTP information invalid.

Any tips?

Is that just plain FTP, not FTPS or SFTP?

If yes, do you have port 20 an 21 open outgoing in your firewall?

The port was already open, but I did whitelist the FTP server and now it works. The backup was successfully made.
