Can't edit or upload documents

I just took over a website from someone else and this is my first time using DA.

I have been able to navigate around the manager just fine, but I am having a problem.

1) If I try and EDIT a file using the Manager, when I SAVE my changes, the file reverts to 0.00k and is empty if I try and edit it again.

2) If I try and COPY a file using the Manager, the copied file is 0.00k and is empty.

3) If I try and UPLOAD a file using the Manager, it returns a successful upload, but the file is not in the directory.

I am trying to track the old person down to see what is up (I am using the same login as he did), but regardless of that, these things should just *work* one would think.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Sounds like the tmp directory problem.
Make sure it exists and has the correct permissions.

This has been known to cause failed uploads even though DA says there were successfull, and might cause the other symptoms are mentioning.

I saw that in a previous post. There is no "host" directory.

I tried to create the folder at the highest level and it wouldn't allow me to create a "tmp" folder there.

Jon,

If you read his post carefully you'll note he's most likely a "user" and has no access to anything except the user interface.

Earnan, presuming I'm correct and you're a user and not the owner of the server, you'll have to ask your hosting company to help you.

You'll have to ask your hosting provider then.

I really wish we'd get rid of this particular forum, or maybe tweak the naming.

Thanks guys.

Curious--I thought this was the user forum? Is there a different one I should have posted this question in?

Hehe, it is the user forum, but it was meant for user-level questions by administrators who have full access to the server. Otherwise, for example in your case, there's nothing you can really do about the problem without contacting your hosting provider.

The entire forum is for folk who run DirectAdmin based servers, earnan.

The problem is that everyone else seems to find it :) .

Some domain "users" even get pointed here by hosting companies that don't want to run their own support services.

I'd love to help you, earnan, but I can't do it because you don't host with me and I can't log into your server any more than you can.

:(

Jeff
