I am looking for a new Bare Metal Server with a 5 user DirectAdmin control panel. The vast majority of Server Hosting companies do not offer DirectAdmin any more. Is there a list available of Server Hosting companies that still offer DirectAdmin?

A 5 user DA panel does not exist.
There is a 10 user version (admin and 9 useraccounts) but I've never seen that offered on bare metal servers before.
You could get that from DA itself when you rent a server somewhere.

In any other cases, you might encounter server offers with legacy DA licenses, which are for unlimited users, but not to be used with newer OS like Ubuntu 24 or newer mariadb like MariaDB 10.11 because 10.6 is the latest you can use.
Those are offered for free or like 5-10 euro's (or dollars) a month. It's also the reason a lot of server companies stopped offering them because you can't use those for real long anymore for this reason. And they don't get very cheap licenses anymore themselves (as they did before).

So keep that in mind if you find company's still selling DA licenses with servers.

In other cases, with modern licenses, the offering is either illegal or probably will cost you more than getting a license yourself directly from DA, which is better anyway because then you are entitled to direct support from DA.

Honestly it's probably because Directadmin screwed over so many lifetime license holders and they've moved on to other panels. I would recommend you do the same.

Drink less acid and live :-)

Sure, it's not ideal that DirectAdmin no longer offers unlimited updates with a lifetime license. But on the other hand—what do you expect? They can’t keep running a company on the $100 they received five years ago.

If we only bought our wives flowers once, they wouldn’t be too thrilled either. That’s why we do it regularly—and it's the same for DirectAdmin. They need recurring income to keep things going.

I expect a company to offer exactly what they advertised. Otherwise it was fraud that deserves a class action lawsuit.

I wasn’t around when DirectAdmin first offered lifetime licenses, but by all accounts today they come with quite a few strings attached.

I get that you’re disappointed by the new restrictions, but remember—you probably paid for your license what I spend in just four months of subscription fees.

At the end of the day it’s tough to complain about terms you knowingly agreed to. If you genuinely believe you’ve been wronged, by all means explore your legal options—don’t wait for someone else to lead the way.

@sunnyday, you can use any DC provider you like and just buy the DA licence directly from directadmin.com. That way you are in complete control:
  • Complete freedom in picking a Data Center provider. Any company that provides electricity, hardware and network will work. You could even use your own basement and old workstation (please do not take the basement DC idea seriously).
  • If the situation changes, it is easy to migrate to a different DC provider. The DA licence is not tied to a server IP or provider.
  • You have full control of the DirectAdmin licence. The licence can be upgraded or downgraded. It can even be cancelled if you are fine with static configuration and no updates.
  • You have full access to DirectAdmin support on the tickets.directadmin.com.
