Trying to get into I simply get the message
"Firefox kan geen verbinding maken met de server op www.esp-evoluo.org:2222." (can't access the server on mydomain.org:2222).
I switched off already the Firewall and the router, but this makes no difference.
Please help!
Am I on the right problem-level ?
Johan

Theres a chance the server wasn't available at the time you posted this, but I just tried it and http://www.esp-evoluo.org:2222/ works fine here. If it still doesn't for you theres a connection problem. Reasons could be;

- A firewall on your PC
- A firewall on your router
- A firewall on the server
- Other software on the above

An easy test is to check if you can visit https://www.directadmin.com:2222/

If you can't; its a problem definitely on your end, if it does works; its something at the hosting provider in which case you should contact them.

I can access both url's, but from the home page, having gone to the file_manager and clicking on public_html, then I get the message about not being able to find the server.

Could be a number of things then, fastest way is contacting the hosting company, they can check if theres anything wrong.

My host could not help me, apart from advising me to load up new files by Firefox-FTP in stead of by accessing http://www.mydomain:2222.
Because this is the only website which I can't load, neither by Firefox nor buy IE and I have checked the settings of my firewall, made a complete scan of my computer etc., I presume that some custom setting with my host is not alright.
In fact I am not very pleased with the way he addressed me.
Also I deleted all my cookies, the history and try to understand what is written on some helppage, that I should run /sbin/service iptables stop and sbin/chkconfig iptables off ('only on redhat systems').
I wished people and sites would use less jargon.

That part about iptables and redhat is for the server admin, you can't do anything with that as a directadmin user.

But iptables is probably not relevant at all in this case. Since its only one directory you get stuck on, its likely that directory is maybe very big, corrupted or maybe a wrong owner, or maybe something else. Its very hard to guess without access.

Perhaps there is somone on this forum who had the same thing going on, or maybe someone can tell when the file manager timesout on a directory or something, but if not theres not much we can do for you I'm afraid. You could ask your hoster to go trough the same steps in directadmin as you do, and see if he gets the same. But maybe he already did but didn't know how to fix it and just tells you to use ftp; I don't know.

Its a matter of service you get with a company. If its not good enough, I'd advise you to find another company -- there are way more then enough in hosting :)

I feel sorry for my host company - I just called them to inform them - but the problem was with my computer. I found by spybot malware Muollo, after which I called my antivirusprovider Norman. There one urged me to run Windows Update and waht came out ? That I urgently needed ServicePack 3 of Microsoft Office.
Now I can access again everytjing I want and my machine is running smoothly! Good heavens.
Thanks Arieh!
