can't start MySQL

Hi everyone,

I've just installed DirectAdmin, everything seems to be fine, but if I try to start MySQL, then I get the follow error:

[root@sugaming ~]# service mysqld start
Starting MySQL... ERROR! Manager of pid-file quit without updating file.

I have tried to remove the /etc/my.cnf file, but that will not work.

Does someone know what's wrong

Forgotten: I have CentOS 5.5

It seems mysql.sock is not available.

because it says when I change pass @ DA
Error connecting to MySQL: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

and /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock does not exist

also /tmp/mysql.sock does not exist.

If mysql isnt start the sock isnt create afaik.

I've just reinstalled DirectAdmin and now everyting works fine, but thanks for the fast replys.
