CentOS 5.2 installation, DA won't start?

Hey all,

Fairly new to the installation game but I thought I'd give it a a shot. I installed custombuild 1.1 (php 5 cli, apache 2.2) and it seemed to had installed properly but I can't seem to get DirectAdmin to start.

When I restart httpd or directadmin this is what I get:

Shutting down httpd [OK]
Starrting httpd

There's no OK when httpd starts but it doesn't say failed either. I check top and it's running though?? It just says FAILED whenever I try to run directadmin from root.

I installed this on CentOS 5.2 default i386. It came with sendmail, apache 2.2, named/bind pre-installed so I yum removed them before running setup.sh

Am I doing anything wrong?

I'm also not quite sure how to get it to install exim over dovecot during initial install.

Hope someone can help me figure this out!

Well I got it installed now but Apache/httpd is still doing that weird thing. It doesn't tell me if it started or not it just starts.

Whether you see the OK status is based on the code in your startup file in your init.d directory. Check there.

Please do not double-post.

Thanks a bunch, I did end up figuring it out last night. Sorry about the double post!
 
Crusader - Can you please post your fix? My particulars are just about identical to yours.


Rather than create a new thread, I thought i'd post my issue in this one, since my issue is similar. My machine specs are the same as Crusader's, only difference being that I have CSF firewall, and webmin installed. There is a webmin module that I need to administer my firewall remotely when i don't have ssh access to the server, which is most of the time. I do have port 2222 allowed in my config. After installing Directadmin and it wasn't working, i disabled my firewall and rebooted the machine and still the same. I also reinstalled DA (with the firewall disabled), and still not coming up. The errors with the hostname.. When i first got the server online, it was named something else, and then i changed it. But it was changed before the DA install.

Which specific one do you want help with? If you say all of them its time to start learning about apache. And this thread is about DirectAdmin not starting.

It's not a problem with apache. Apache is running or you wouldn't get these errors. Someone is visiting the site on your server that is supposed to be running at /var/www/html, and looking for pages which do not exist.

The first thing you need to do is find out which site is running on /var/www/html (as when using DirectAdmin generally sites should run in a subdirectory of /home).

Since you haven't told us the main IP# of the server (and hopefully the URL of the domain you think is causing the error), there's no way to even tell you where to look.

i have had the same problem
the firewall was stll running
so i did iptables -F
 
You don't want to turn off your firewall. That would be stupid.
