One of our major headaches are people who can't read and create a POP mailbox and a mail forwarder alias. Then open tickets when crap doesn't work like they think it should.

What I purpose is that DA check to see if a POP box exists with same name as a forwarder and fail if it does, and visa versa..check if a forwarder exists, etc.

Prevent a lot of tickets. :)

For us that would create a lot of tickets.

If you want the mail saved in a mailbox, create a mailbox. If you want it forwarded, create a forwarder.

If you want both, create both.

SImple, and easy to explain in your new account email.

Obviously you don't read site-helper. :) You can't have both. You can only have one or the other.

Note: You cannot create a POP3 account if the username is taken by an autoresponder, forwarder, or mailing list.

And this is not a myth, it's a fact. When they have both, their mail gets flakey.

I don't know when Site-Helper was last updated, but the behavior was changed a few years ago.

It's handled by routers in the exim.conf.

And it works fine here.

Anyone else have any experiences?

Yep, we experience the same issues Sullise is describing ... different servers (same ver of DA - current) - using latest exim.conf, different OS's .. it's reproducable.

Joe, please explain exactly what you do in what order (use masked names if you want; I'm not going to try them) so I can compare my procedures with yours.

Thanks.

Jeff

Hi,
I know this is a kind of old thread but I can create a Pop mail box and a forwarder with the same name with no problems. I'm running DA 1.26.6, CentOS 3, Exim 4.61.

That's the problem...it's a crap shoot. I've had some work, and others not.

Dovecot or not?

It works for us without dovecot.

When I switch a server to dovecot, I'll test, and I'll make necessary changes to exim.conf for it to work with dovecot if somehow the changes for dovecot break the functionality. It's supposed to work.
