Checking email without entering full email address

Hello everyone,

I was under the impression that with DA you don't have to enter your full email address to login to webmail as long as you're logging from your own domain but looks like it doesn't work for me except for the email account created by DA upon account creation? Any ideas?

Also, I have heard about a Squirrelmail pluggin called vlogin that does what I mentioned above.
Does anyone know if vlogin (for Squirrelmail) is installed with DirectAdmin?

Thanks,
Ben

Your impression was not correct. We always tell our clients to use their complete email address for logins since the short version doesn't work.

Based onr results it does NOT appear to be installed.

rldev,

Do you mean you're using it and it works, or do you mean you'd like to use it?

Ben,

If no one else has tried it I'd like to try it on my testbed system as soon as I have some free time.

Jeff

Sorry I meant I use the plugin for squirrelmail and it works. However, I don't find much use in it as it can and will confuse customers because in a email program like Outlook, they are forced to use their full email address.

Jeff,

Thanks for taking the time to test it. Please let us know how it goes.

I'm glad to hear rldev got to work. Maybe I'll try it too once I have a spare server to test it on.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm just too lazy to type in the full email address when I need to check my mail :)

Good day everyone,
Ben

Ben,

But I get mail across several domains, and I'm too lasy to type in a new URL every time I check mail :) .

Jeff

Jeff,

I see what you mean.
By the way, I've heard about this webmail product called DWmail. I checked their website and it looks very good and seems like a lot of people are using it.

Since you have multiple domains to check email it may be worth looking at.

Regards,
Ben

You can do this with squirrelmail with a plugin. Although I haven't got the plugin to work correctly.

I've been very happy with squirrelmail.

While I'm not religious about Open Source, I don't see any reason to use (even if available at little or no cost) a closed source solution where an Open Source solution will do the job for me.

Of course your mileage may very well vary. :)

Actually it is this one:

I am working on replacing uw-imap with courrier imap. Squirrelmail will work much better if this is done. I'm not certain why DA chose uw-imap as several sys admins I have spoken to think it is "junk". :) So this is the only problem I see with squirrelmail at this time.

Hey,

Might take a look at the one that is installed with Squirrelmail - Mail Fetch.

It's included in the default plugins that install with SM but it is not enabled...

I was doing some poking around and ran across it... Haven't used it myself so I can't comment on it.

It works for me.

Hi rldev,

I installed the plugin and it works great from an email user standpoint. However, I'm experiencing a glitch here, the control panel user can't log in to check email. I can't seem to be able to log in to the webmail as admin anymore. None of the reseller accounts can log in either. I tried accessing the webmail via http://IP-address/webmail but doesn't work though. Any ideas?

Thanks.
