Was told to talk to you about this as its a hard codded message.
A new message or response with subject: User *** has used up 1.70955% of his bandwidth and 96.2584% of his allocated disk space has arrived for you to view. Follow this link to view it:
I was a little bit offended by it saying him because I am female.

I'm not sure what you'd suggest. In every English stylebook I've ever seen the male is always inclusive of the female in the abstract.

People who don't know often use their but that's definitely incorrect usage, as it's plural.

English doesn't have a word for singular, male or female.

So your suggestion is what?

Jeff

You coul have it say his or her instead of just his.
That way you are not leaving out half of the human race and its more common.

I find that a bit cumbersome, though you of course may prefer it. (I suppose it was accidental that you capitalized the H in His and not the h in her; since it also indicates a gender bias, though perhaps more subtly.)

There's an interesting discussion of the issue here.

I suppose we shall leave it up to the JBMC staff.

:)

Yes that is accidental, not on purpose at all.
I just do not want that message to leave out my gender as of right now it seems very bias to males. Like saying only males use directadmin when that is not true.

It doesn't say that at all; if you read my link and many other stylebooks on the 'net, you'd see that in English the masculine pronouns are always inclusive of the feminine.

When I write I generally use s/he. But that gets cumbersome with his/her and then there's always someone (you?) who will want me to use her/his. Some writers alternate, but I find that both cumbersome and hard to keep track of.

Perhaps John or Mark will reply.

Jeff

I did read that and the little thing at the end were it had a blank I put his/her.

Another option which might be cool and would fix your cumbersome issue. Would be to allow the host to change that or even allow the client using the directadmin to change it.

Like maybe in the directadmin have a place to pick your gender and that message will automatically put in the correct word.

Hello,

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll try and be more generic when referring to Users/accounts, etc.
