Hi Guys/Ladies

This is my first time installing DirectAdmin. So I've been following this guide and require some clarification on setting up my hostname.

Because the guide's pre-install instructions recommend setting up a hostname and an A record pointing to the hostname (host.example.com):
so ensure a DNS A record for your hostname exists pointing to the DirectAdmin server’s public IP address

Should I only add a non-proxied A record on Cloudflare* that points to host.example.com and my public IP at this stage? Further, should I set my reverse DNS on my provider's account to the hostname or should I just leave this blank?

Please know I will really appreciate anyone's help on this matter.

Cheers:

*Cloudflare records also include one A record and one CNAME for the domain.

in @eva2000 guide its this part.

If your desired hostname needs changing you can do that now using command below changing hostname.yourdomain.com to your own desired hostname.

Code:
hostnamectl set-hostname hostname.yourdomain.com
You can verify with with above commands used to get current registered hostname or via

Code:
hostnamectl status
Then ensure your hostname’s DNS works via DNS A record pointing to DirectAdmin server’s public IP address. This is important for proper mail delivery from the server and for DirectAdmin licensing checks.
I dont use Cloudflare as they are a poor company

The hostname is a unique name for your server like apples.beak.com.
apples is the server name beak.con is the domain name you own at the registrar.

PS and welcome to DA

just some info to help you while your here.

Sorry, for the ambiguity, I wasn't after a definition of a hostname. Instead, I wanted to know if you set it in the Rdns (yes) and in Cloudflare if you set a non-proxied A record that points to it (yes). Further, I do plan on switching to another CDN, but CloudFlare is a good temporary solution while I finish designing my website.

Oh sorry. Well have to wait for someone else who knows cloudflare. I personally wouldn’t use a company who openly admitted they are using all the tracking information they get on every one.

No worries, it's my fault for not being clearer in the original post. Anyway, what would you recommend for a DNS server, currently I'm thinking easy dns.
