Hi,
I am having trouble configuring dns for two sites, and if anybody could help me out I'd be very grateful.

This is what's happening:
I have two websites, www.newsfromschool.com and www.scoilmhuireportlaoise.com. They are currently hosted on a linode.com vps, where i used webmin to set up virtual servers. the dns was run by godaddy.com where i bought the domains.

I have got a directadmin account now on a2b2.com, and i want to transfer the sites over because the repsonse times are better.

I get two IP's with the account 85.234.132.187/8

Am i correct that i can no longer run dns externally with godaddy or zoneedit or similar? That I have to run my own nameservers with DA?
I tried to set up two nameservers ns1.newsfromschool.com and ns2.newsfromschool.com. I registered these as nameservers on godaddy and entered them as the nameservers for scoilmhuireportlaoise.com, howver these now appear to be lame nameservers.

I can play around with scoilmhuireportlaoise.com, but I have to keep newsfromschool.com running all the time.

How can I set up the nameservers properly in DA? or is it possible to run dns externally?

If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it a lot.

Thanks

Neil

No, you can certainly use godaddy or zoneedit, or anyone else you want. You don't have to because DA sets up its own DNS, but you can. If you do, then you have to either delete your entire DNS zone on your DA account (or ask your hosting company to do it for you if they don't allow you to do it yourself) or make sure that the DA managed server and your godaddy/zoneedit account have the same information.

Absolutely not. You can, but you can also use the nameserver names that a2b2.com tells you.

If you've registered the nameservers at GoDaddy then GoDaddy has a problem and didn't properly complete the registration, because doing a dig on the nameserver names show them as having no A records, and registering nameservers should set up glue records and give them an A record. Talk to GoDaddy support to resolve this part of the equation.

Once this is fixed, they should start working properly as soon as you move the sites to the a2b2.com server.
