It seems DA was terminated at the time it was performing an upgrade. Please execute:

/usr/local/directadmin/directadmin update current

This will re-try the upgrade from CLI.

Made again a fresh install. I'm done with Alma 8. It works (sort of speak). Now fighting with Alma 9, let's see how (if) works.
..........I'm editing the post. Alma 9 same problem. Custom build not displayed after fresh nstall, service httpd reported down. It is something wrong in DA install or compatibility issue, as with Centos 7 none of these happens.
