Hye

How can I copy EVERYTHING from DirectAdmin (all accounts with ALL data) to another server with DirectAdmin?

Thanks in advance!

If you update your DA server to the latest revisions and turn on the enhanced skin for your admin, you'll find a screen for system backup.

I'm not yet sure the default settings back up everything you need, though.

I should be trying a complete backup/restore system in the next two days or so.

Translation: He will be doing the same thing you are asking about in two (2) days or so and if he has the time he might be able to provide some instructions, notes, or thoughts that he may have from his experience to aid you in your task.

Was I close Jeff? :p

Thanks for the clarification, Jon.

I've just started a system backup... this backup will be more complex than some, because some IP#s will be changed.

Note that based on prior experience and general knowledge, I'm not using the defaults.
EDIT: It turns out I made some mistakes :( .

See my most further down in the thread.

Here are the Directories I'm backing up:
/etc/mail
/etc/virtual
/home
/usr/local/frontpage
/var/log
/var/mail
/var/spool/cron
/var/spool/mail
/var/spool/virtual
/var/www

and here are the Files I'm backing up:
/etc/group
/etc/hosts
/etc/passwd
/etc/proftpd.conf
/etc/proftpd.passwd
/etc/proftpd.vhosts.conf
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/shadow
/etc/system_filter.exim
/usr/local/directadmin/data/admin
/usr/local/directadmin/data/users

If anyone knows of any errors in my logic, please bring them to my attention in this thread.

Once this thread is done I will be creating a HowTo.

When the backup is completed I'll move it to my testbed server for a complete restoration.

I'll try to get the time to restore it tomorrow (Wednesday).

It will be at least 24 hours before I know how well I did.

would there be any need to backup the ssl related keys for the secure DA login? or should those just be recreated on the new machine?

Edit:
I'd want to create them on the new system.

We used the DA installed system backup, and did NOT set up automatic FTP.

When we went back to check, it appeared that the backup was NOT done.

Further checking shows this error:
"insufficient amount of free disk space, aborting".

Under the original DA schema for system backups this will happen if the user has a separate partition for home. I'd brought this to John's attention some time ago and it has been fixed in more recent intalls.

Howevever I distinctly remember fixing it in this system, but it's possible the "fix" didn't take from the web-based control panel through to the configuration file.

I'll check further and continue the thread.

Jeff

Jeff, could you write how to fix it.
I have the same problem:
"insufficient amount of free disk space, aborting" and don't have idea how to fix it.

Regards
Tomek

All new installations of DA should be fixed, but here's the change:

MOUNT_POINT="/home"
BACKUP_PATH="$MOUNT_POINT/backup"

You can either change the config file or change it (and save it) through the DA interface to system backup.

Jeff

It turns out I didn't have exactly the right copies being made...

System backup settings:

Directories:
/etc/mail
/etc/virtual
/home
/usr/local/directadmin/data
/usr/local/frontpage
/var/log
/var/mail
/var/spool/cron
/var/spool/exim ????
/var/spool/mail
/var/spool/virtual
/var/www

Files:
/etc/group
/etc/hosts
/etc/passwd
/etc/proftpd.conf
/etc/proftpd.passwd
/etc/proftpd.vhosts.conf
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/shadow
/etc/system_filter.exim

I'm running the backup and move to my testbed server now.

Presuming everything goes right I'll start the restore in the morning.
