CP link in support emails? where to set it?

I think it is the domain of the administrator or reseller that the user is under.

i've got a problem though, .. the domain i need to send people to is owned by a different user account than admin.

is there any way around this?
 
Do you mean the from address or the sender?

As far as the from address is concerned:

The reseller for the domain can set the email address and name, and then the domain should send out email from that address and name.

It should be independent of who owns the domain.

As far as the sender is concerned, that's the hostname for the server. If the hostname for the server doesn't resolve, you should fix it so it does or change the hostname.
