Hi,

we have multiple domain names pointed to my server, 2 of which are giving problems;
paddocklive.nl
paddockamsterdam.nl

Paddocklive.nl already exisists for a year now. Recently we registered paddockamsterdam.nl and pointed it's DNS to our server.

When I tried to add paddockamsterdam as a user I got the message domain already exists. I searched this forum and took the advise to delete the zone in DA. That fixed it.
But when I added paddockamsterdam again, all email accounts in attached to the paddocklive account were gone!!
Re-adding these email accounts, I noticed they got their inbox back too (used/quota was the same as before they were deleted).

Removing the paddockamsterdam user and re-adding it again removed all email accounts in the paddocklive.nl user.

When checking both paddockamsterdam.nl and paddocklive.nl showed they now both have the same emailaccounts, while I only added them at paddocklive.nl

Anyone any idea whats happening here?
I have NO experience in SSH or doing things manually. I only work via the webinterface of DA.

I'd like to add that adding another user with any domainname DOES work. Maybe it had something to do with the word paddock contained in both domainnames?

Thanks

You cannot add paddockamsterdam as a user. It is way too long.

Obviously I use shorter usernames. When I talk about paddockamsterdam and paddocklive I refer to the users with that domainname.

Obviously

Nothing is obvious. If you don't tell us then we don't know. We do not assume anything.

We can only help you if you give us complete and accurate information. So why don't you start again and tell us step by step what you are doing that causes the problem.

Don't be an ass sir.
Your answer does not contribute to any solution at all. It does not show you need more clarification. It shows you're just another elitist being an ass.

It's pretty obvious because:
1. You and I know DA doesn't allow long usernames to be typed in. The problem cannot exist if I did not find a work around.
2. It's therefore logical I did not meant user, but the domainname attached to this user as I explained in my reply.

If you still don't know what I meant by now, you cannot help me.

This is a serious issue which needs to be solved and I'm trying my best to explain it. I don't need to have some smartass replying to this threat.

Thats a good way to get this thread closed and you not getting any help.

What's going to happen is no one is going to help the original poster unless he gives us enough information to consider the situation.

While it always amazes me when new posters attack the oldtimers with hundreds, even thousands, of posts, instead of working with them to learn about the forum and about DirectAdmin.

But I do like to give newcomers a chance to learn; we were all newcomers once.

If there are more personal attacks, then the thread will be closed.

OK.
See below. Maybe keep in mind that english is not my native language. I hope you guys can find the time to actually help me.

Thank you very much.

Hello,

By your post, you've implies that you've added the domain paddockamsterdam.nl twice. I'm guessing, based on your result that paddockamsterdam.nl was actually a domain pointer to the first domain name paddocklive.nl, meaning they share email accounts. The "domain already exists" guide mentioned to ensure that the paddockamsterdam.nl domain doesn't exist through DA before removing the zone. In your case, it probably did, thus when you added the domain again, you caused both locations to point to the same pile of email accounts, hence the issue.

Solution, remove the domain pointer first, before creating a domain with the same value.

John

Thank you very much. The domainnames that were giving problems were listed in the pointers. I totally forgot I put them there. I removed them.

I can sleep again!

Again, thanks for the help.
