Looking over the feature requests, I can't believe this is not here yet.

I love DA, BUT, I think the way cron is handled is atrocious. cPanel is much more advanced in this reguard.

First, I'd like the ability to edit a cron job.

Second, I'd like the ability to change the email address to send standard output.

Third, I'd like DA to read & edit the cron file directly - by this I mean that if I edit a cron job via telnet or ssh, my changes will appear in DA.

Is this too much to ask? Anyone else want to second me on this?

Amen!

Yeah, if you want to make a change to your cron jobs, it would be really helpful to not have to delete and recreate the entire cron job. Look at how CPanel does it. Much simpler.

I could also really use the ability to tell the cron job where to email the output for the results of the script. Right now it always sends to the default email address on your account - which I haven't yet found a way to setup forwarding on...quite annoying.

It's a simple command:
[email protected]

Trial and error is never a good way to make changes on a running server.

Agree, however, the issue can not be resolved any other way from what it appears. The techs can't do it, server support is no help, even offering to pay for a fix was a waste of time, and this forum is also unable to give any assistance on this issue.

Personally, when I run into a programming , script or html issue which I can not easily solve I simply use trial and error quite successfully even though I am not a programmer or geek. However, without a CronJob editing capacity that can not be tried.

We have no AWstats for 3 weeks and am getting really disturbed over it. Why is there no place to turn-to to resolve issues like this, even for a fee, can't hire anyone, why?

It's very frustrating and disturbing so I now feel like throwing in the towel on DA over this (and a few other issues too).

What are you asking about? Changing DA so it will edit cronjobs? None of us can do that for the simple reason that DA is closed source and none of us have the source.

Not updating AWStats?

AWStats is not part of DirectAdmin; the best place to go for support would be either whomever created the AWStarts plugin, or perhaps an AWStats forum.

I've seen previous threads of yours where you've asked for work on a fixed rate basis. It's sometimes hard to quote on a fixed rate basis.

Perhaps someone would be willing to work on the problem for a fair hourly rate.

....

The obvious response is why can't whoever has the source code let it be done? I read here that editing the Cron can be done in CPanel so why not permit th DA Cron to be edited too?

Another option would be whoever has the source code does it himself or has his programmer do it for a fixed fee.

Why a fixed fee you ask? What if the coder does not know how to do it or is inexperienced? What if it takes him say 5 hrs but if he was sharper only say 2 hrs? So why would I take that chance and have an open-ended cost based on an hrly rate?

Dave, the only people who can do it are the DirectAdmin staff.

I'd contact them; perhaps they'll consider it important enough to add.

None of us can modify DirectAdminfor any fee, since we don't have the source code.

I've never had a problem with a cronjob edited through the shell appearing in DirectAdmin; if you're having such a problem let us know how you edited the cronjob.

As far as fixing AWStats in a cronjob, that has nothing to do with this thread, since AWStats is not a part of DA, but a third-party addon.

I don't think any one of us is going to offer it for a flat rate, since no one has as of yet.
