CustomBuild updates - should I update and risks?

Hi all

Very new to linux, VPS and Direct Admin of any sort :)

Hopefully this is a simple question. Looking at Direct Admin CustomBuild I have quite a few items that are listed with updates available. Is it recommended I apply all updates, especially the ConfigServer Security and Firewall as shown in the image below (there are additional items that are not shown in the image)?

I am concerned I may break something and do not know if there is a fallback option.

Thanks

Hello,

Every update is always a risk. The more customisations you have on a server the more risks you take. If you run all the software with default config files, then there is almost no risk to update software. Directadmin is enough stable these days. But there were new features and security improvements introduced since the last updates of running software on your server. So you are welcome to read changelogs here: https://docs.directadmin.com/changelog/

I would say the most problematic can be "Dovecot" and "dovecot.conf", especially if you have some customization, because here is update from version 2.3 to 2.4.
Everything else should not cause any issues, of course if you do not have any other specific customization.
But I would recommend to run updates one by one and check if everything is OK after every of them (especially update of EXIM and MariaDB)
