Hi,

I have a server running CentOS 3.3 and DA.

I have another server with a different DC with CentOS 3.3 installed, but they said that DA does not support this OS, but only supports Redhat 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0 or FreeBSD 4.8, 4.9. (FreeBSD 5.x currently in beta).

What does this mean?
Are there compatibility issues?
Can I not install DA on top of it?
What happens to my other server which is running CentOS 3.3 and DA?

Any help appreciated.

Regards,
Suhail.

It means they're wrong.

Of course part of their confusion is the DirectAdmin page here, which lists RHEL 3.x but NOT Centos 3.x.

DirectAdmin installs on and works on Centos 3.x.

But your data center may not want to install it or support it.

I see...

So do you recommend I change operating system? If so anywhere I can find thorough instructions as to how on an existing server without losing data/customer profiles?

Also what do you recommend as the best OS for DA and why?

Answers appreciated very much.

Regards,
Suhail.

No don't change OS, Jeff and a lot of other people on this forum have CentOS as thier first choice for an OS to run DA on.

Tell your DataCenter that CentOS is the same as RHEL 3 (It's compiled from the same source tree) and point them to the link Jeff provided so they can update thier list of OS's that DA support.

Onno
