DA seems to suck on Debian

I got a dedicated server and requested DA on debian and I have had nothing but issues. Documentation for debian support is almost non-existent. That's a shame because Debian is my favorite Linux distro. I also can't seem to find a good way to restrict debian packages and that has totally screwed me up. I think that I will have the DC do an OS reload with CentOS and see if that goes any better. I also think that I will tell them not to install DA for me because I think that they may have screwed things up as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Why dont you install DA yourself? Thats what we do. That way you only have one person to blame.

Pucky, I think that's what he said; he wasn't going to have the datacenter do the DA install.

smoked1, can't you find a config file for apt-get, so you can tell it which programs to not update? It's been a long time since I used apt, but I vaguely remember there was a way to configure it to not do automatic updates of excluded files.

That said, I prefer DA on CentOS (no flames please) because DA is first written on Red Hat; everything else is a port, and you probably won't find as much detailed support for DA on anything else as you do on CentOS.

But that's just my opinion.

I have never used CentOS but it can't be that hard. I tried Redhat 7.2 many years ago and I hated it. Ever since then I have tried to stay away but I'll give it a shot. Damn DC charges 50.00 for an OS reload though.

Well, I was able to get CentOS installed but now DA won't even install. I'm about an inch away from trying cpanel.

Your DA license is OS specific; you need to contact sales to have them change it for you.

Thanks. I got my license updated and DirectAdmin is running strong on my new CentOS box.
