nightly backups are starting to take a real toll on the server.
since there are international customers, they are hit the hardest because when the backup is running, the server is crawling to a halt!

anyone have any better solutions than to run a nightly backup with DA's backup feature?

is there a way to have DA just run an incremental backup?

We don't use the DA backup feature, but instead rsync incremental backups from our servers to BQbackup. Their prices are cheap and the service is great for fast and reliable rsync backups.

Do they supply any software or setup or instructions? Or just raw space?

In any event, don't forget you're also paying for your data transfer.

There's no software required. They provide access to the backup space via Rsync, FTP, SFTP, SCP, and Samba. Most servers already have Rsync installed by default. If not, it is easy to add. When scheduled as a cron job, you can have Rsync run automatically on a daily basis.

They do supply instructions on creating the cron jobs for incremental backups of the entire server, the home directory, or individual user accounts. They are also very helpful if one has questions. If you look them up on the WHT forums, you'll see many positive reviews.

True, though after the initial backup you're only transferring updated files, so it isn't bad at all (YMMV).
