Hai,

After multiple tries to install DirectAdmin on Debian 6 ( squeeze ), i can say, this is a big fail.

First, after setup the basis system, als clean as possible we start to install DA.

After DA install..

1) Problemen with apt-get ( libz error) unable to install packages.
2) Some services wont restart. ( first it was bind, and second install it was ssh )
3) Documentation for debian installs.. where, wiki is bad, alsmost no info.
4a) less secure, what using debian, you have lots more work to do to keep your system updates.
4b) more less secure, you dont want any compiling software on production machines, you want to get hacked...
5) there are always errors after the basic installs.

My advice to others, use debian as it should, and dont put DirectAdmin on it. choose centos for DA.
Im back to Ispconfig, which is fully inline with the debian standards, and uses only the official debian packages.
Setting up Ispconfig was done withing 10 min, and that was de full server install.

And i do like the DA interface, but please DA People, make it so that DA uses de default debian packages.
So much better.

And really, the Random questions are so bad, it took me 10 questions to register, and i hope i can post this message.
wat the .... is this for question... Random Question: aye bee cee ___ ee eff

Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your experience. If you need a help to install Directadmin on your Debian Squeeze you can get it here as a commerce service from either forums members or official staff. In case you've got questions on how to install, post them here on the forums, and you will definitely get some useful replies.

The compiling from source is safer than using an OS package, since you can update to a newer version as soon as there is a new version released. With packages you have to wait for the OS to update, and they're quite slow. Also after being used to custombuild I don't even want anything else. As a Debian user myself I do sometimes get errors at installation but nothing that can't be fixed. CentOS might be less trouble, but if you're used to Debian it's only a very small price of extra work you can choose to pay. Personally I've never had problems with bind or ssh.

You're doing it wrong then.
The bare things that apt-get needs to get after the bare OS install is: ssh, bind, gcc, g++, and perl....
***Please do not install services such as Apache, PHP, MySQL, Ftp, Sendmail, etc., as we will do this for you. All we need is a CLEAN install of your operating system.***
Then you can use apt-get for other updates

Debian for the EPIC WIN

Debian is an epic win for me. No issues at all and uses a lot less resources than CentOS or Red Hat or Cloud Linux.

Combine with with Direct Admin and you've got a very easy setup for people to use and understand (or if you just prefer a control panel on the fly), which uses less resources than anything else out there.
