directadmin templates why limited custom?

I read the README in /usr/local/directadmin/data/templates and it says only a select few files can be used in custom, is there a specific reason for this since this is quite a restriction. The file I have customised 'user_prefs' is not in this list so I would expect I need to replace after each DA upgrade.

I'm guessing the reason for the limitation is because the code only looks for certain files in custom before it looks in the default directory.

I'd suggest the best place to find out this information is in an email to DA support.
