DNS Propagation

Hi there,

I have just changed my server and had to change my DNS settings in my Direct Admin using DNS Mangagement.

Now i changed it to use a CNAME record instead of an ip address as ill be most likely changing servers again soon anyway.

My problem is that I changed this on friday morning and its now early monday afternoon and it still hasnt been changed. When I ping the server I still get the old IP Address so it hasnt been propogated.

How long should I wait for it to be sent through? Is there anyone else I should contact (like hosting direct who I bought the service through)

What other information do you need? I am still new to this Direct Admin type thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

CNAME records are of very limited use; they can cause problems. More information from Wikipedia, here.

Without your domain name and both sets of IP#s it's really impossible to do anything but guess, and I don't like to guess. More information will help us help you.
