Hello all,
I stumbled upon an issue and possible solution earlier regarding an email problem I was having. On my server, a non profit organization is a client and I am part of their mailing list and have been since I built my server. Thus I get all of the important majordomo mailing list emails. However in the past week I had NOT gotten any while others had. So I did some investigating...
I checked the /var/log/exim/mainlog file to make sure that the mailing list program was not giving any sort of errors, and it wasn't. So I matched up the times when others received their email to what was listed in the logs, and it was then I noticed the following:
"smtp transport process returned non-zero status"
This happened 3 times when sending email to @modemnet.net for myself, mom, and sister. While that is my main domain name, the email for it is NOT hosted on my server. Rather the email account that is used in the mailing lists sends mail to the @modemnet.net domain (hosted by everyone.net) and then forwards mail back to the @modemnet.org domain i DO have hosted on my server.
Anyway long story short, only our three email addresses that are @modemnet.net were giving the above error. All others on the mailing list were getting mail sent just fine.
When I searched the DA forums here, I came across the following thread that attributed my problem to last weekends upgrade of OpenSSL to 0.9.8 due to a compile error with FreeType. This was about the same time I noticed I hadn't been receiving emails from the mailing list.
http://directadmin.com/forum/showth...tp+transport+process+returned+non-zero+status
Anyway, my question is... DO I need to recompile exim against OpenSSL 0.9.8 or just reinstall the RPM? Do I need to backup anything else other than exim.conf? Will I have to reinstall SpamAssassin??
Thoughts or suggestions???
Brad
