Does Squirrelmail updates change configs?

When DA does an update of web apps, do I get new config files in the squirrelmail/config directory or does the old config survive? If I get new ones, then I may want to put in Nutsmail! since I need to maintain it myself anyway. If the configs survive, then I may not want to use Nutsmail! so I don't need to maintain it myself.
