Hello all,

I hope someone here can assist me with an issue I'm currently facing. It seems I'm having trouble setting up a domain alias at the server level.

I have Direct Admin and a shared hosting package at my provider. Here I have a Wordpress website. A new domain I have should be aliassed; so the goal is the new domain url is visible in the URL bar, while the existing website content is shown.

I've noticed that setting up a domain alias doesn't work at the user level. Of course for me it is my purpose to do so for at the level of the server, not with Wordpress ‘redirect plugin’.

My first question: Is this something that should normally be done at the user level? As there are options in DA panel it is not needed the provider helpdesk should do this.

Do I have to set up rules in the .htaccess file in 2 directories; or for 2 different domains or for only one?

Kind regards,

Wes

Sorry but then you're not a Directadmin license holder. This forum is only intended for support to Directadmin license holders, so Admins and in some cases resellers. Not for hosting customers using DA.
They should contact their host for support. Mostly because things can be configured in all kind of different ways, hoster can have made a mistake and maybe something needs to be changed at server level.

So you have to contact your host for support. If he doesn't know, then he should ask here on the forums.

To be of some kind of help this once:
Yes, normally the domain alias is something you can just use at user level by using the "domain pointer" option. Check that one. When using domein pointer, you can choose to have it as pointer or also as alias. And that is exactly what you are looking for.
