Can I give a user domain instead www.user.domain.com, give the domain www.domain.com / user?

By default, I guess, no, you can not. As it is not allowed to add a domain more than once. By you can try with

http://server_ip/~username

Or you might need deep customization of your running httpd.

If I'm understanding correctly, user www is asking if s/he can use www.domain.com/user instead of user.domain.com.

If so, I'd give the question a qualified yes answer. Because if user.domain.com is created as a subdomain in DirectAdmin, then www.domain.com will work by default.

Presuming that there's no domain-specific code on the site. For example, Wordpress requires the site be accessed by a specific domain name.
