Hello,

I'm having problems with the management of domain names in DirectAdmin. I wish only for reseller or admin has the right to change the domain name for the user. In the user level, it can not change domain name on "Domain Setup".
Please tell me how to.
Thanks

are you sure you cannot see "Change a Domain Name" inside the Domain setup option?
it should be on the top left hand side.

He does see it and that is the problem. He does not want the user to have that ability.

The only thing you can do is change the skin but the reseller and admin will still not be able to change the domain.

But to follow your logic then you would also have to prevent the user from deleting his domain and adding it again with a new name.

I don't understand why you would want this to be removed from the user.

I can see why this would be a good idea...... Take us for example, we use external branded DNS/NS for our customers...... Therefore if the domain changes, then the customer has to change the DNS/etc elsewhere as we do not have the (changed) domain pointing to the server ourselves.

On another note, I see users can delete any domain from that screen, and seeing as the list of domains are hardcoded in the skins, don't you think thats dangerous? Customers may mistakenly wipe their site(s). On a side note, maybe it will be better if the main account domain can not be deleted.

But there is no such thing.

No more dangerous than ftp access which allows them to delete every file in their domain. The end result is the same.

If you don't want want clients to be able to manage their own domains then don't give them access to anything. Its real simple.

"this" = The ability to change the domain name. What offline asked about.

It does not make any sense to remove that feature and still leave the ability to delete and add.

I can understand it if you want to remove all the ways a client can change or delete the domain. But again in that case just remove access to the control panel if your clients are that incompetent.

We have some full-service clients. We manage everything for them because all they can do for themselves is create problems (and they know it).

We create a random password for their account, which we don't give them. We create an extra ftp account, which we do make available to them, so they can use FTP but can't use DirectAdmin to make changes which could cause problems.
