Hello All,

I am using drupal and it can automatically download updates for mudules. This did work on the previous shared hosting i had but on the VPS it comes with the following message;

WARNING: You are not using an encrypted connection, so your password will be sent in plain text. Learn more.
To continue, provide your server connection details

How can I enable apache (I assume?) to use ftp on the VPS?

Thanks,
Bastiaan

Does anyone know how Drupal uses FTP to download updates and how can I enable it. On the previous shared hosting I had it automatically worked. On the DirectAdmin VPS it does not, which mechanism is used for this and how can I enable it?

Its all ok now, I had to fill in my Directadmin credentials and it worked, so apparently DA creates a user that can use ftp on the server.

For drupal ; it is an automatic update feauture that downloads an updated module to the server via FTP, this way you don't have to download it, upload it to teh server etc, very convinient.

On previous hosting it all happened automatically so, probably that ftp was just open to use on the server...

With suPHP/FastCGI and/or mod_ruid2, I'd guess you no more need update your Drupal copy via FTP. Of course if Drupal can update itself automatically without FTP.
