I am probabl;y a dummy but when i load (or publish) index.html into the main dir and check my homepage i only get 404 error. No matter which folder i put index.html (designed in dreamweaver, no strange things, simpel page) i keep getting the 404 error....
The requested URL / was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Can somebody help me, call me dummy or whatever, i just don;t get this.

Thansk in advance

What folder did you put it in.

Make sure it is going in the public_html folder.

What is your actual domain/url you are visiting.

Files need to go in: /home/<USERNAME>/domains/<YOURDOMAINHERE>/public_html

You need to create an index.html index.htm or index.php to have your page visable. What was the name of the file you put in public_html.

There is alot of good information here:

This i know, i have put index.html in that folder, refreshed browser, but nothign seems to appear only this message:
Apache is functioning normally

Anyway, thanks for your link, i studied that one already but besides that the files seem to be in the correct folder, no further information unfortunately.

Because i was fed up with this, i coped index.htm in all logical dir's but nothing seems to work......

It has to be all lowercase letters it cannot have a capital I like you have it now

Index.html is not index.html

rename it to index.html

You earned the right to call me dummy now, that is basic stuff and i didnot even notice it, renamed it and it works!!!
Thanks!

It's working here. Perhaps you've been looking at a page or error message cached in your browser?

Meanwhile it is working here as well, there was, despite emptyign it, still a cache problem with my browser. On my laptop it worked fine but the desktop kept making problems. Re-installation of firefox solved.
