Hi all...

I'm needing for naming reasons, to use the following configuration :

we would like to affect :
name1.domain.com to point on user.dyndns.com
name2.domaine.com to point on user2.dyndns.com

I've thought of using a cname, taking this scheme...
name1 CNAME user.dyndns.com
name2 CNAME user2.dyndns.com

Updated client, and tested in browser, doesn't worK....

What must i do to use this scheme...

Thks very much for your help

Since you don't give us real information, we can't test for you.

What you're doing looks reasonable, but you also have to have ns records for your nameservers and they have to have been created as nameservers at the registrar where your domain is registered.

[DNS problem]

Jeff, sorry i just can't give this information mostly on a forum, as it could have security incidence for this test...

May i mail u the testing names ???

Thks

May I suggest you read this before deciding whether or not you really need to email me instead of posting.

Thanks.

Yip jeff, i read and don't agree at all purposes... If our client doesn't wan't us to reveal information there is no reason i should give out this information...

So just for this reason i have set up a testing account on our own dyndns service..

Here is a testing scheme :

test CNAME testcard.dyndns.org.
domain for the test is :
test.cardiff.fr

This doesn't seem to resolve to the dyndns service... very weird..

DNS service for cardiff.fr appears to be resolved by ns1.oxyd.fr and by ns2.oxyd.fr.

Is that your DA server? If not, then you'll have to change the DNS servers for cardiff.fr at your registrar to point to your DA server.

If so, then you should look at your DA server's zone records... do you have a zone file for cardiff.fr AND a zone file for test.cardiff.fr?

If so, then you should delete all the records for test in the cardiff.fr zone, and just add two NS records, pointing to ns1.oxyd.fr and ns2.oxyd.fr, for test, in the cardiff.fr zone, and then create the CNAME record in the zone file for test.cardiff.fr.

While there are other ways of doing this, this method is the cleanest, because DA expects a zone file for each subdomain it creates.

Sorry to be picky, but I think you'll understand that I couldn't do any of the testing I needed to do to help you without a real domain name.

While I don't mind private email, I give away my time on these forums, and charge for work contracted privately :) .

After all, server administration and problem serving is our core business.
