e-mail on different server

Hello,

For one of my clients I have the website running on my DA machine. But, e-mail is taken care of by a different server.

To make sure that all mail is delivered correctly, I have changed the MX record in the DNS to the hostname of the other mailserver.

This works correctly for external senders, but when local senders want to mail to the domain they get an error saying that the e-mail is refused. This seems logical, since no mail accounts are configured for the domain. When I configure the local mailaccounts, it does deliver the mail, but not on the external machine but on the local server. This means that my client won't receive this e-mail.

How can I fix this ? I think that the only solution is to manually remove the domain name from the Exim MTA. In that case, the server will normally look up the correct mail server and deliver te e-mail to it. The question is whether this is correct and if so, how it can be done.

Maybe this might be a point for future DA-enhancements, the possibility to split the website and e-mail delivery. A 'forward to smart host' option or something like that.

Thanks !

In the DNS MAnagement section there is a link at the bottom of the page to Modify MX records.

Bottom of that screen there is a Local Mail Server check box.

Uncheck it and click save.

This should do it.

Thanks Rob!

The reason I overlooked this is because I have DNS control disabled for all my clients. The MX-records link will not show up in that case.

Al little tweak to my suggestion above: make this option available for the admin/reseller also and not just the users itself.
