email quota and default setting

Do the email quota's count against the total space give to the domain?

The reason I'm confused is when users create their email accounts they can choose unlimited, but is it really unlimited? Unlimited within their limit maybe?

Can someone clarify for me?

Email accounts are limited to the ammount of space allocated to the user. So if they choose unlimited it is unlimited up to the max of free space remaining on their account.
