Hi all.

New to DA and still finding my way around. I have a domain pointer that needs to receive email.

The primary domain is, and has been for a long time; www.WayToolLongToBepracticable.com I registered the domain name www.RealShort.com to make email a lot easier.

Using DA I pointed RealShort.com to WayToolLongToBepracticable.com but I can't add [email protected] using DA.

I tried creating /etc/mail/virtusertable and adding a virtua map, but that didn't work.

Ideas/advice please?

The plot thickens!

Email sent to the pointed host works fine on three out of four networks. Huh?

Ok, here's whats happening (this is for testing only).

There are 4 servers (boxes) on separate networks, A, B, C, & D all on separate IP's.

Network A is running DirectAdmin and has DOMAIN2 pointing to DOMAIN1

DOMAIN1 has an email 'user@DOAMAIN1 forwarded to user@DOMAIN3 on network B.

All 4 networks successfully send email directly to user@DOMAIN3 on network B.

Networks A, B, C successfully send email to user@DOMAIN3 (Network B) via the forward user@DOMAIN1 (Network A).

Network D CAN NOT send email to user@DOMAIN3 (Network B) via the forward user@DOMAIN1 (Network A).

Networks A, B, C successfully sends email to user@DOMAIN3 (Network B) via the forward user@DOMAIN2 (DOMAIN2 points to DOMAIN1).

Network D CAN NOT send email to user@DOMAIN3 (Network B) via the forward user@DOMAIN2 (DOMAIN2 points to DOMAIN1).

Said differently, Network D sends email directly but not not via Network A (running DA). I don't imagine DA is the issue, but since its involved, any ideas?

Was this positing clear as mud?

/etc/mail/virtusertable is not anything directadmin even uses so dont bother using or touching the file.

When you create a domain pointer all email addresses will work for all domains but the logins will still be the main domain. If you want an email address for that other domain then you need to add a 2nd domain to your account.

After adding a 2nd domain you can use site redirection to point the domain back to the first one. Use / for the pointer and then enter the url.

Problem solved. Sorry to waste every ones time.

For the curious; DOMAIN1 used to reside on Network D. When I moved DOMAIN1 to Network A I did not remove all the files from the Network D server.

So, when Network D was attempting to send email to DOMAIN1 the server thought it was still local and didn't go to the Internet to find it.

:D
