I can't access squirrel email from within directadmin.
Error:
Error opening ../data/default_pref
Default preference file not found or not readable!
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.

And if I try uebimiau
ERROR (512): Smarty error: problem creating directory "tmp/_cached_templates" (/var/www/html/webmail/smarty/Smarty.class.php:589)

Can this be resolved, please?

I have managed to resolve this.
PHP Safe was on as that is what I needed to run a php/mysql game.

But that then causes the email issues, so I have had to turn safe mode off.

You can turn safe mode on and off on a per domain basis.
