Time to time I saw exim have defunc status leaving zombie. Restarting exim does not help me as it is. The only way was restart server (Silently in the middle of night but someone definetely notice it as they can see server uptime. )

Any idea? what could cause this? it is really irregular. hapen twice a day. one a weeks... etc.

I have a server with the same problem.. the load average are very high with exim up with exim down no problem. The exim generates a lot of zombi process :

ps -ef |grep defunc

The logs seems normal.. Any idea?

The problem is spamd .. with spamd off and exim on all fine but with spamd on and exim on the load average is a nightmare . The spamd proccess seems to be normal , execute and die fast . I know spamd performance is not the best but in this box..

Any idea to reduce the charge or track the problem ?

The new Spamblocker 3.1-beta exim.conf file should solve problems for both of you. There was an exponential increase in spam last week; this new SpamBlocker file stops most of it.

Is compatible the spamblocker with spamassasian ? im not sure what is spamblocker only a set of rules to block malicius ip ranges?

SpamBlocker is the name I gave the exim.conf file I wrote some time ago to use blocklists and other methods to keep spam to a minimum. I licensed it as open source and DirectAdmin decided to use it.

The file is compatible with SpamAssassin; you need to read the documentation in the file, and especially to search for every line marked with the uppercase word EDIT for necessary changes to make it work with your configuration.

The latest beta version (highly recommended) only works with Dovecot; all my future exim.conf files will only work with Dovecot and we highly recommend it ;).
